A Guaranteed Transferrable Guarantee

16 For this reason it is by faith, in order that it may be in accordance with grace, so that the promise will be guaranteed to all the descendants, not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all … (Romans 4).

A few years ago we had five piers installed under our foundation to correct a leveling problem.  Upon completion the company handed us a “Lifetime Guarantee” on the work — a guarantee which is also guaranteed to be transferrable to every succeeding owner of this house.  In the legal document outlining a history of the house, we gave full disclosure of the problem — and also of the transferrable guarantee.  Potential buyers really like this!

The word for “guarantee” here means “firm, unalterable, assured, and steadfast.”  Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?  We are assured that it cannot be changed or altered in any way.  Oh, and it is also transferrable in the sense that the promise made to Abraham is applied to any who demonstrate the same faith which he had.

Lord, thank You for this guaranteed transferrable guarantee concerning Abraham’s faith and the promises granted because of it.  Thank You that we are children of Abraham — children according to the promise.  Help us This Day to live in the same faith he had.  Amen.
