1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, (Romans 5).
Having the peace of God is not just the Starting Point, it is also the Ending Point. Through the Cross and Resurrection, Jesus has won the victory over sin, and has thus declared a cessation of all hostilities between us and God. The war is over. We are no longer His enemies. The insurrection has been put down, and we are no longer rebels to His Kingdom.
Indeed, we are now citizens in His Kingdom, which is a Kingdom of Peace headed by the Prince of Peace who actually calls us His friends. He has justified us, thus declaring us righteous and making us fit for His Kingdom of Righteousness.
Yes, having the peace of God is not just the Starting Point, it is also the Ending Point. And because it is the Ending Point, it makes it also possible for us to eventually cross the Finish Line. This is because the enmity between us is gone — forever.
Lord, thank You for this Ending Point! And thank You that because of it we will also cross the Finish Line someday. Until then, and particularly This Day, help us to run the race well. Amen.
