9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him (Romans 4).
God’s wrath is coming. It’s on its way and there is nothing to stop it, save the blood of Christ. As the blood of that first Passover lamb, smeared over the doorways of homes, stopped the death angel from taking the firstborn — so will the blood of Jesus Christ, that “firstborn from the dead” (Colossians1:18) Paschal Lamb, smeared on the cross and sprinkled upon the Mercy Seat, stop the wrath of God as it judges sinners.
His blood stops the wrath, not because it covers our sins, pronouncing us innocent — but because it destroys our sins and thus “justifies” us, pronouncing us righteous! And God’s wrath cannot and will not fall upon anyone who is righteous. Thus, even as the Jews on that first Passover had nothing to fear as they huddled together with the Passover Lamb’s blood over the doorposts of their homes, so do we also have nothing to fear of the wrath of God — all because of the Paschal Lamb’s blood over the doorposts of our hearts. Yes, “we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him,” even Jesus Christ.
Lord, thank You that we need not live in fear of Your wrath! Thank You that we are safe and covered by the blood of Jesus. And, as we meet people This Day who are not safe because they do not have the blood of Jesus covering them, help us to speak the Gospel of Jesus humbly and boldly to them so that they might become safe in Him. Amen.
