15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father” (Romans 8)!
From “slavery” to “sons” and from living in “fear” to crying out “Abba” in peaceful prayer — this is what happens when we are “adopted” into God’s family. Everything changes completely. We move from bearing the demands from a cruel master to enjoying the privileges and protection from a loving father.
Think of a little girl holding her father’s hand while walking through a crowded store on Black Friday. In all the bustle suddenly she loses his grip and is pushed away in the flow of humanity. She immediately does the only thing she knows to do at such a moment — she cries out, “ABBA! ABBA!” until he finds her and sweeps her up into the warm safety of his arms.
Lord, thank You for sweeping us up into Your strong and loving arms! Thank You for being our Abba Daddy! Help us to walk through This Day and all the hustle and bustle of life — with You hand in hand, as privileged and beloved children. Amen.
