31 What then shall we say to these things? … 35 Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword (Romans 8)?
Listed are seven circumstances we all experience in one way or another, to one degree or another: “tribulations” (to be pressed into — no relief); “distress” (to be squeezed into a narrow place — no room); “persecution” (to be chased after — no rest); “famine” (no food); “nakedness” (no clothes); “peril” (no safety); “sword” (no peace).
No relief, no room, no rest, no food, no clothes, no safety, and no peace — not good! Yet, none of these can ever divorce us from the love of our faithful Groom, Jesus Christ. Though we encounter all of these situations, His love will still always abide with us all the way through them.
Thank You, Lord, for always being with us whenever we meet up with trouble in our lives. You are our faithful “Yes” midst lots of “No’s.” Help us This Day to try to be as faithful as You. Amen.
