27 Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ (Philippians 1).
These two words “conduct yourselves” come from one word in the Greek, which means “to behave as a citizen” and there are two ways to look at it. The fact of the matter is, we have a foot in two worlds — this dying world in which we live, and the Kingdom of God, which is alive and well and coming to fruition.
On the one hand, we are to behave well as citizens of the community and state and nation in which we live, recognizing and obeying the laws of the land — for the gospel we preach to the lost demands pure living among those lost. On the other hand, we are to behave well as citizens of the Kingdom of God, recognizing and obeying His laws to love and submit to one another — for the gospel we believe demands Christ-like living among others who also believe in Him.
Lord, help us This Day to walk in both worlds in a manner worthy of the gospel we proclaim and adhere to. Amen.
