Signs of Salvation

27 Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; 28 in no way alarmed by your opponents — which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God (Philippians 1).

Here’s a trifecta of salvation assurance: a firm stance, a united work, and a calm defense.  Nothing can move the believer to leave the gospel.  Nothing can cause him to exchange unity for having his own way.  Nothing anyone says against the gospel or against him for believing in it can “alarm” or “terrify” him.

Such are “signs … of salvation” for believers — that God is truly at work in their lives.  Whereas before, they were tossed about in their beliefs, now they stand firm.  Whereas before, all they wanted was their own way, now they are considerate of the opinions of others.  Whereas before, they were scared to death of being persecuted or at least made fun of for anything smacking religious, now they don’t care what people think of them.

Lord, we stand back and marvel at Your work in this regard.  May we live This Day with this wonderful assurance working in our lives.  Amen.
