8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things (Philippians 4).
The ultimate in positive thinking is biblical thinking, and indeed what a lovely list is here afforded to urge us on in that regard. Actually, I would not be surprised if the British began using this word “lovely” as a result of the King James Bible. This is the only place in scripture where this word is found, and this “lovely” list has certainly always drawn the attention of those who love our Lord.
Indeed, any believer could do no better than to “dwell on these things” and these things alone, daily making them the sole subject of cranial activity. Since right thinking always leads to right living, any soldier of Christ would no doubt fight the good fight very well indeed, with but this one lovely list in their armory. And one could surmise that any soldier of Christ who regularly employs this list must certainly experience fewer wounds in their spiritual battles.
Lord, thank You for this lovely list! Help our minds at least This Day to dwell on it like never before. Amen.
