A Sacred Trust

1 Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the benefit of circumcision? 2 Great in every respect. First of all, that they were entrusted with the oracles of God (Romans 3).

There is no greater honor which can be bestowed upon any person than to be entrusted with something.  And, the greater that something is, the greater that honor and trust.  It says, “I value you so much that I am willing to let you be in charge of the thing I hold most dear.”  The Jews were most honored by God in that He let them be in charge of putting His oracles, His words, down in written form, and keeping them for all mankind.

We, as born-again, redeemed-by-the-blood-of-Jesus believers, are honored by God in that He has placed the Spirit of Jesus, the Word made flesh, into our very hearts to shine for all mankind.  God values us so much that He has entrusted us with His very Spirit.  He desires to reveal His Word to all mankind, and He gives us the greatest honor there is in entrusting us to do that.

Lord, why would You so honor any group of people, including our church, to entrust us all with Your Spirit and Your Word?  May we be found faithful — at least This Day — to that trust!  Amen.
