24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; 25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith (Romans 3).
Let’s see, there is just so much here — quite a mouthful! Here is my take:
Our justification (the believer’s right standing with God) is a gift of God, reflecting His grace toward us, a grace which He showed through the redeeming work of Jesus on the cross, where with His own precious blood (a spotless sacrifice) He appeased the wrath of a just God (propitiation) and made a public transaction to purchase (redeem out of bondage to sin) we who would believe (have faith) in that sacrifice.
This is the Gospel. By grace we can now stand before God, because by choice Jesus allowed Himself to be hung on a cross. He hung so that we might stand. He redeemed those with no value, with the most valuable commodity in existence — His blood. He who is of most value, purchased the valueless — thus making us precious. He redeemed out in the open, those who had tried to hide from God.
O Lord, thank You for this bountiful grace, this redeeming work, this precious blood, this awful propitiation, this public transaction — all for sinners like us! Help us to live This Day full of rejoicing over what You have done for us. Help us to show grace to others, to sacrifice for others, to overlook faults of others, to live openly as Your people of faith in Jesus. Amen.
