3 For not knowing about God’s righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes (Romans 10).
The bliss of the believer is found in deliverance from works of the law. Righteousness is handed to us instead of attained. We don’t earn it, because it cannot be earned — it can only be given. It is given to those who cry, “Uncle!” — not “Eureka!” They give in and “subject themselves to the righteousness of God,” instead of trying to “establish their own” righteousness by works.
Christ is the end of all seeking for every true believer. He is the City of Gold, the Fountain of Youth, the Camelot. To know Him is have everything, because His righteousness is the greatest commodity in existence. By God’s grace our rags of righteous efforts are removed and we are clothed with the righteousness of Christ.
Lord, thank You for giving us Your righteousness and helping us to stop trying to earn it. Help us This Day to continue to submit ourselves to You in everything. Amen.
