True Godliness

5 holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power… (2 Timothy 3).

True godliness is power unleashed upon the soul—anything else is but a sham. It takes spiritual power to change a life—by subduing bad habits, conquering weak morals, overriding faulty reasoning, and taming the beast of sin and selfishness within. Without this “power” no real godliness exists at all—only a shadow of it, a “form” and “semblance” of it, but not the real thing itself.

The only spiritual power that produces true godliness is that which comes through the grace of God—not the will of men. True godliness can never be achieved by man—it must be received by him. It comes from the power of God outside himself, and working its way within. The tree of godliness grows not from some kind of self-induced spontaneous regeneration, but from the seed of righteousness planted within by God Almighty Himself.

Lord, we confess no power within ourselves to produce true godliness. Thank You for implanting Your righteous power within us to make us more like You. Help us This Day to yield to You and thus see this power at work in our lives. Amen.
