12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light (Colossians 1).
In 2 Corinthians 3:6 Paul wrote that God had “made us adequate as servants of a new covenant.” Here he writes of making us “qualified … to share in the inheritance of the saints.” These are the only places in the New Testament where this word is used. The idea is that God equips for the task.
But what equips us? What make us adequate? What qualifies us? Answer: His Light, which is the mark of every saint of God. If “God is light, and in Him there is no darkness” (1 John 1:5) and “He has given us of His Spirit” (1 John 4:13), who is also Light, then it is His light within us that equips, makes adequate, and qualifies us for anything and everything—and for this we should always be “giving thanks to the Father.”
God, our Father, we do give you thanks for Your Spirit, Your Light, who lives within us and equips us, makes us adequate, and qualifies us for anything and everything good in this life and the next. Help us This Day to walk in Your Light. Amen.
