22 yet He has now reconciled you … in order to present you before Him … 23 if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister (Colossians 1).
Salvation is not just a beginning point in time, but an ongoing process brought to fruition. One who is truly saved at a point in time will indeed “continue” in the process leading to ultimate conformity to Jesus Christ. We don’t rest in the moment of a decision in the past, but in all of the resulting moments of a relationship with the living God, which are spawned by that initial decision.
This is because true faith is a living faith in the living Christ who abides within. We know He will “present [us] before Him” because He is always present with us, and working His life into ours. We remain “firmly established and steadfast” in Him because He proves Himself the same within us.
Lord, thank You that we are not saved by some prayer in the past, but by Your Spirit who came to abide. Help us This Day to having a living faith in this One who lives within. Amen.
