18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom; to Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen (2 Timothy 4).
This verse is tied to verse 6 where Paul wrote the time for his “departure” was at hand. This word was used to describe the loosing of mooring ropes on a ship. Many times Paul had taken ships back and forth across the Mediterranean Sea. How many times he had likely stood on the deck and watched the ropes fall away(“depart”) as the ship slipped away from the dock.
Soon he would make his final launch, not upon the Mediterranean, but crossing the deep waters of death itself and arriving “safely to His heavenly kingdom.” This would be the sweetest sailing of all.
Lord, thank You for that departure that awaits all of us who are in Christ Jesus and give You “glory forever and ever.” Help us This Day to live in the hope of this sweet sailing. Amen.
