25 Of this church I was made a minister according to the stewardship from God bestowed on me for your benefit, so that I might fully carry out the preaching of the word of God … (Colossians 1).
Paul was “made a minister”—he didn’t choose it. God’s Word was a “stewardship from God”—it didn’t belong to him. Paul’s purpose was to bless “the church”—not himself. Thus, in a nutshell, ministers are chosen stewards of God’s Word for the benefit of the church.
This should humble every true minister—and keep him humble. Nothing is about them, it is about the Lord and His people. He has nothing but what is given to him by God, and he is nothing but what God Himself makes him.
Lord, thank You for all the ministers You have sent to us in our churches. Help us This Day to resolve to show our gratitude to them by heeding their words based on Your Word. Amen.
