Love Chains

14 Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity (Colossians 3).

While we “put on the new self” (verse 10) and we “put on a [new] heart” (verse 12), we must not forget also to “put on love”—God’s love, agape love, which is unconditional in nature.

The words “bond of unity” come from one word meaning “that which binds together”—a love chain, if you will. Such a bond is “perfect” in its morality and ethics. We live in a fallen world, with fallen people and fallen values, so that without this kind of love, relationships will always tend to fly apart. Show me a lack of “unity” among people and I will show you a lack of love among at least one party. It is as simple as that.

Lord, help us This Day to be Your love chains. Amen.
