33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God (Romans 11)!
How interesting that just before those disciples’ nets caught or “enclosed a great quantity of fish” (Luke 5:6), Jesus had commanded them to “put out into the deep water” (Luke 5:4). Yes, the Net of Mercy is found only in “the depth (same word as in Luke 4) of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God.” He knows what He is doing! He knows exactly how to reach Jew and Gentile alike, and He is working out His merciful plan—perfectly.
Aren’t you glad that God’s Mercy is found right alongside His Wisdom and Knowledge? Aren’t You glad His Mercy is no less deep than these? In 1 Corinthians 8:1 we read, “Knowledge makes arrogant”—but that is only in regard to man. God is infinitely knowledgable, and yet has no arrogance whatsoever. Instead, He has Mercy. He knows every single ugly thing about us—and yet, He shows Mercy for each one of them. None needing His mercy will ever be found later!
Lord, thank You for Your deep Mercy! We’re so glad You know every ugly single place in our hearts, so that You can show that Mercy for each and every one of them. Help us This Day to show mercy to others for any ugly spot we might see in them. Amen.
