9 Let love be without hypocrisy (Romans 12).
“Without hypocrisy,” that is “unfeigned, undisguised, sincere”—that is how God’s kind of “love” is shown. That is how it is always shown. Anything else is a fake. And it is a fake because the agape kind of love written here only comes from God Himself—and His love is always, always, always … “without hypocrisy.” So, Paul is saying, “Listen, if there is any kind of love among you, make sure it is God’s kind of love.”
Thus, a smile on a face does not always reflect the smile of God. I have learned this the hard way—trusting in the pleasant countenance of so-called Christians, who were really just tools of the devil—people harboring bitterness, spreading slander on the side, and at an opportune moment publicly leveling false accusations.
Lord, thank You for Your agape love toward our church family! May we reflect This Day—and every day—only this kind of love toward others. May our smile only be God’s smile. Amen.
