9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him … (1 Peter 2).
“Chosen,” “royal,” “holy,” “possessed,”—not bad descriptions. Each one of these points to someone outside of ourselves. God is the Chooser who chooses us; God is the King who sits on His throne; God is the Source of true holiness; God is the Owner of all that we have and are. It all points to Him, not us.
“Race,” “priesthood,” “nation,” “people”—not bad things. The most blessed race is the group chosen by their Creator; the noblest priesthood is the one connected to the Great High Priest—Jesus Christ; the purest nation is the one whose borders are drawn with the blood of the Lamb; the luckiest people are those who belong to God.
Eight great words, full of meaning and glory for us who belong to God in Christ. Lord, help us This Day to live up to all they describe, as we also proclaim You as the One who deserves all glory and honor. Amen.
