5 but they will give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 6 For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God (1 Peter 4).
Men judge only the living, while God judges both the living as well as the dead. And He will definitely judge those who have judged and maligned (or even killed) His children. And to these who have been judged in life by unrighteous men belong the blessing of “life in the spirit” forever and ever.
We often think of death as the worst thing that can happen to anyone, yet when seen through eternal lenses, it is nothing at all. Martyrs may be mourned here on earth, but they are certainly not in heaven. In a day when Christians are being cut down in the streets, this is a good thing to keep in mind.
Lord, we are grateful that You, the only Righteous Judge, have the last say, and that we have nothing to fear. Help us This Day to walk confidently and without fear in this turbulent and dangerous world. Amen.
