8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world (1 Peter 5).
There comes a moment in some people’s journey in life when they realize they are not alone in the fight. They discover there are other “brethren” who share the same struggles and weaknesses and onslaughts that they do—and yet have overcome them. Such a discovery is nothing less than a game-changer. “You mean, I’m not the only one? You mean, others know what I’m going through? You mean, I can have victory, too?” We move instantly into a “poor little me” attitude to a “Let’s do this!” one.
If God did it for one, he can do it for another. In fact, He can do it for a whole host of others. We need not cower before the “roaring lion” because we know others have successfully stood up to him—and actually made him run away! I am a part of this brotherhood and sisterhood called the “brethren” of God. If God helped them through their suffering, He can help me through mine as well.
Lord, thank You that we are not alone in our suffering. Not only are You always with us, but we know others have our backs, too. Help us This Day to do our part in having the backs of others who are suffering in any way as believers. Amen.
