18 In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures (James 1).
Believe it or not, the phrase “In the exercise of His will” comes from just one word in the Greek and could be translated “Because He wanted to…”. The phrase “He brought us forth” could be translated “He brought us from the womb” or “He birthed us…”. The “first fruits” James is referring to are those believers in their day—that first generation since Jesus left this earth.
So, for every generation of believers God’s plan is exactly the same: just because He wants to, He causes people to be born again, so that others will also be born again through their witness. He is sovereignly involved, and we are responsibly involved.
Lord, thank You for this wonderful and sovereign plan. Help us This Day to devote ourselves to it. Amen.
