Simple, Yet So Hard

19 This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger … (James 1).

It sounds so simple: “quick to hear; slow to speak and slow to anger”—what could be easier, right? Yet, we tend to be just the opposite: slow to hear; quick to speak and quick to anger. We would rather speak our opinion than listen to the opinion of others, and then we get angry when they won’t listen—while at the same time we ourselves are not listening to them!

Think about it. What if we would learn to value the thoughts and words of others more than we value our own? What kind of a difference would that make in our lives, and in the world? Only God knows.

Lord, help us This Day to manifest this simple verse in our lives. Amen.
