3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification … (1 Thessalonians 4).
The word “sanctification” means “holiness or purification” and is the bottom line in all of God’s desires and “will” for His people. It is that “good” which God “works all things together for,” making us “become conformed to the image of His Son” (Romans 8:28-29), who is absolutely holy and pure.
The Father’s greatest love is His Son, and thus His greatest desire is to make us like Him, holy and pure. Thus, He will move heaven and earth to achieve this greatest accomplishment. So, no matter what is going on in our lives, whether blessings or sorrows, the “why?” of it is always the same: our sanctification—to make us more like Jesus.
Lord, thank You for making us more like Jesus. Help us This Day to cooperate with You in this greatest accomplishment. Amen.
