Holding to a Confession

16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much (James 5).

Of all the commands we are given in our Bibles, perhaps the least practiced is this one: confessing our sins to one another. It seems that of all the ways to humble ourselves, this must be the greatest; otherwise, we would do it more often. Yet, we just seem loathe to do it. We would much rather confess everyone else’s sins and just keep quiet about our own.

It also shows how little we trust one another. If we really believed that the people we confessed our sins to would pray so effectively on our behalf that their prayers would bring healing and wholeness to us, we would make it a common practice to confess our sins to them.

Lord, help us This Day to be a people who hold to a confession of confessing our sins. Amen.
