“What If?”

19 My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins (James 5).

I’m a sucker for shows and movies about time travel. They always throw in a big “What if?” question, and then answer it. “‘What if’ this happened instead of that?” So, as I’m reading this verse I’m thinking: “‘What if’ I pray for so-and-so today and they actually repent of their sin and have their lives turned completely around by God?”

When it comes to prayer, we’re all time travelers in the sense we can go to the One who stands outside of time and has the power to change the course of history and answer the greatest ‘What if” questions that exist: “‘What if’ people repent and believe in Jesus Christ? ‘What if’ souls are saved from eternal death? ‘What if’ a multitude of sins get covered up?”

Lord, help us This Day to be faithful time-travelers. Amen.
