6 Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person (Colossians 4).
Do you want to “know how you should respond to each person”—especially toward “outsiders” (verse 5)? “With grace,” that’s how. Grace should be the default mode of all“speech”—but especially that speech which is directed toward those who do not know Christ.
Just as food that is “seasoned with salt” is more tasteful, so does grace bring a palatable flavor to the words we speak to people who have not yet experienced salvation by the grace of God. Grace makes us winsome so that we might “win some” lost souls to Christ.
Lord, help us This Day to be winsome in our speech. Amen.
