3 … I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints (Jude).
Considering all that we do and experience, very few things occur “once for all” in our lives. Yes, repetition and routine are usually the norm, yet there are at least two things that were done once for all: Christ’s atonement, and the handing down of His Gospel.
The Gospel we believe in and share today is exactly the same as the Gospel Jude himself believed and proclaimed twenty centuries ago. We can neither add to nor subtract anything from it. It is exactly the same as it has always been. It adapts neither to the culture nor the times. Yes, methods of sharing the Gospel may change, but the message itself must never change.
As Galatians 1:8-9 warns us, those who try to change the Gospel are in extreme danger: “8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! 9 As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!”
Lord, thank You for this once-for-all Gospel! Help us This Day to live it and share it. Amen.
